View Personal BioJulie McDonaldAt the Illinois Waterway Visitor Center, guests watch towboats and barges carrying thousands of tons of cargo pass through Starved Rock Lock. Bald eagles frequent the area in the winter and pelicans, great blue heron and many other birds can be seen in the spring, summer, and fall. History detectives discover the early users of the Illinois River, the Illinois and Michigan Canal and learn how water transportation transformed the United States.
